UK’s Largest natural Gas Storage Business Publishes Independent Public Scrutiny Report,

Storengy UK’s Responsible Business Board – an independent board of business, community and energy experts thought to be the first of its kind – have published its second annual report on 24th February 2023. Click HERE to view it.

The Board provides an ‘outside-looking-in’ perspective and oversight of Storengy UK’s performance against its Responsible Business Charter. The report details how the company performed against those targets in 2022, despite the unusual context provided by the energy crisis. Following the launch, the report will be made publicly available.

Board Chair Christine Gaskell CBE said: “There has been clear progress in all areas of the Charter and some targets have now been met or exceeded, reducing the need for routine Board scrutiny. This will now give us capacity to switch our attention on other aspects of the business, such as the transition to net zero.”

“We have now developed the Board’s role to engage more widely with the business. We will utilise the extensive range of skills and experience, especially in areas of energy, environment and business practice as a creative sounding board, as well as an impartial critical friend to maintain the focus on responsible business practice.”

Christine Gaskell CBE Chair of the Board

The Board is thought to be the first of its kind, providing an external oversight on the performance of corporate responsibility in a private sector business.

During the last year, the Board’s expertise has been used to assess progress and recommend improvements or provide insight into how the business manages its 4 main corporate responsibility goals:  fair business growth; transparency and accountability; fair employer; and supporting the community and environment. Each goal comprises a set of measurable objectives against which the Board provides constructive challenge.

With the success of the Board over the past two years, its remit is now set to evolve, and they will now additionally support the business towards new targets for 2023 and beyond. These include reaching a target of net zero carbon by 2025 and achieving Investors in People ‘Gold’ level.

Storengy UK’s Managing Director, Anne-Laure Chassanite, added: “2022’s energy crisis created a new set of challenges for the business in how we operate. The changes we made have led to us offering more capacity and flexibility to the National Grid and to our customers. This offers exciting potential, as we continue to expand into a carbon neutral business with a focus on biomethane and hydrogen. Leveraging the talents and experience of the Responsible Business Board to contribute more widely to the business, as well as to scrutinise what we do, will enable us to step back, structure our plans and keep our employees involved in decision-making and maintain our open and transparent approach to business”.
