Low Carbon Projects (Hydrogen & Biogas)

What does the future hold for a greener UK?

We are looking at low carbon developments in Hydrogen, Biogas, Geothermal

The earth is warming at an alarming rate. Twenty of the last 22 years have been the warmest on record. Action needs to be taken on climate change. To combat this, the UK has committed to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. This indicates that the use of all fossil fuels in their current form is unsustainable. To continue to provide the energy requirements of the UK without fossil fuels provides significant challenges in energy generation, transmission and storage. Zero carbon forms of energy such as wind, power and tidal cannot be turned off and on. Electricity storage is hugely expensive, often environmentally harmful and generally inefficient. Electricity transmission is limited by the amount of copper installed and could need massive upgrading with concurrent environmental disruption.

To provide all the energy requirements for the UK for heat and transport as well as power will require huge investments in zero carbon generation. The zero carbon options for generation either produce power when the wind blows or the sun shines or in the case of nuclear, produce constant power. The scale of the challenge in generation, transmission and storage of energy suggests that an alternative to electricity storage and transmission will be required or we will be overwhelmed by planning considerations and investment in cables, wires and batteries. This is why hydrogen is increasingly thought to provide answers. Hydrogen can be generated from green electricity at times of oversupply and transmitted around the gas grid or used as a fuel in transportation.

In the video below the team talk us through what Storengy UK's developments are in low carbon solutions.

Development of Low Carbon Solutions

Acquisition of Deal Farm Biogas Ltd

This unique development opportunity will enable us to construct and operate our first ‘biogas to grid’ facility in the UK.

"Our acquisition of Deal Farm signals our entry into the UK biomethane market. Biomethane is an important part of the energy transition and I am very excited to be putting our strategic objectives in motion. This diversification of our business builds on our group strengths and supports our vision to be a leading sustainable energy storage and solutions provider".
