On Wednesday 8th May Benoit and Duncan attended UK Green Gas Day at the National Motorcycle Museum.

The event is run annually by the Renewable Energy Association and this year has been expanded to include Hydrogen for the first time. We had some great speakers including Dr Alan Whitehead the shadow MP for BEIS and most of the industry leaders including Centrica, CNG and Orsted. The key messages:

  • The industry has grown rapidly in the last 5 years due to Government subsidies
  • There are now over 100 plants and they will soon be injecting 5 TWh of Biomethane into the gas grid
  • All subsidies for Biogas apart from RTFO run out by next year and so future growth will be dependent on new subsidies being put in place
  • However the Committee for Climate Change loves Biomethane and just wishes there was more of it so further Government support seems likely
  • Centrica estimate that we could make up to 180TWh of Biomethane so there is scope for large scale growth

We also had a lot of useful one to one conversations and we are confident the next few months will be an exciting time for Storengy in green gas!
